Our students fully embody the KCM spirit: 'K' stands for 'Knowledgeable', 'C' stands for 'Creative' and 'M' stands for 'Modest'. The school-based curriculum focuses on the use of English for various everyday learning and developmental purposes. To groom our students as inquisitive, motivated and achieving learners, a diverse range of programmes aligned with the curriculum are designed.
1. Aims
The English Language Department strives to:
to provide every student of English with further opportunities for extending their knowledge and experience of the cultures of other people as well as opportunities for personal and intellectual development, further studies, pleasure and work in the English medium; and
to enable every student to prepare for the changing socio-economic demands resulting from advances in information technology; these demands include the interpretation, use and production of materials for pleasure, study and work in the English medium.
2. Strategies
to offer greater opportunities for students to use English for purposeful communication both inside and outside the classroom;
to create a language rich learning environment in collaboration with other departments;
to encourage students to read a wide range of materials with different subject content and text types to facilitate the development of a culture of “reading to learn” and “Reading across the Curriculum” (RaC), and designing appropriate tasks for students to appreciate the value of reading;
to provide junior learners a solid foundation of language skills so that they can acquire good language learning strategies and increase their readiness for NSS curriculum;
to develop students' capabilities for self-directed and lifelong learning;
to further strengthen the quality assurance mechanism to gain insights into students' strengths and weaknesses and to inform learning and teaching; and
to help students to pursue knowledge and truths, to accept multi-cultures and have the world vision.
